A computer glitch in the booking software Sabre caused some issues for a few different airlines during an outage on Monday. Some major airlines that included Southwest, Virgin America, and JetBlue were affected by the glitch which prevented flight booking or modifications of existing flight reservations.
This glitch affected both the customer’s ability to book or change their reservations online, as well as the ability of the travel agents as well. As soon as the outage was over however things starting returning to normal.
Even though the issue was resolved fairly quickly every time these glitches occur they cause delays that can cost a ton of money. The airlines are quick to lose business and customers can become frustrated with the companies even when it’s not specifically the airline’s fault as seen in this example.
The technology running smoothly gets even more important as more companies switch to electronic boarding passes and electronic luggage tickets. United, Delta, and British Airways are other airline carriers who have been faced with some serious computer issues in 2016 as well.
